Plans were announced for a multisport European Community Games, with events in 12 countries linked by television and prize money for winning teams.
Richard Tracey, Britain’s sports minister, said up to 24 sports would be contested. The target date for the games, to be spread over four days, is the spring of 1989.
Sports being considered include track, team handball, rugby, wrestling, boxing, yachting and six-a-side soccer, officials said. Details on which nations will host which sports were not announced.
