After hearing arguments for and against changing Apple Valley High School’s Sun Devil mascot, Victor Valley Union High School trustees decided to leave resolution of the controversy to a newly formed school district that takes effect in July. Deferral to the new Apple Valley Unified High School District disappointed some of the 50 residents and students who attended a board meeting. But residents opposed to the mascot on grounds it offends their Christian beliefs agreed to meet with student representatives to try to settle the issue.
