The J. C. Penney store in the Culver Center in Culver City will see its last Christmas this year. The store, which opened in 1949, is set to close Jan. 24.

Store Manager Tom Coleman said J. C. Penney decided to consolidate the store’s operations at two larger and newer stores at the Fox Hills Mall in Culver City and in Santa Monica. All of the store’s 30 full-time employees have been assigned to those locations, he said.

Coleman said the closure has nothing to do with the store’s business, which he said was good thanks to repeat customers and catalog orders.

The 25,000-square-foot store carries clothing, home linens and bathroom supplies, while other larger J. C. Penney stores also offer sporting goods, electronics, furniture, appliances and other products, he said.

The store is the second recent closure in the city. On Dec. 5, Best Products, a catalog-showroom chain, closed its Culver City location.
