Share

The Los Angeles City Council unanimously approved an occupancy limit law today, to take effect on July 1, aimed at curbing overcrowding in rented homes and stopping the spread of slums.

The new ordinance limits the number of people allowed to live in an apartment or rented house, according to a formula of square footage available for sleeping space. The council also approved a series of safeguards aimed at protecting tenants from arbitrary evictions.
