Four Ex-Officers Get Life for Role in ’69 Sudan Coup

CAIRO — A court in Sudan jailed four former Sudanese army officers Thursday for life at hard labor for helping former President Jaafar Numeiri seize power in 1969, Egypt’s Middle East News Agency said.
Numeiri was ousted in a coup in April, 1985. The news agency said the four officers were accused of helping Numeiri to stage his 1969 coup and were tried under a 1957 law that charged them with rebellion against the existing authorities.
