French Politician’s Car Bombed; Mechanic Dies

PROVINS, France —
A bomb hidden in the car of a right-wing politician exploded today, killing a mechanic called to the official’s house to pick up the vehicle, police said.
Ex-Justice Minister Alain Peyrefitte, 61, a noted right-wing politician and writer who served under Presidents Charles de Gaulle, Georges Pompidou and Valery Giscard d’Estaing and who is deputy mayor of Provins, was in Paris at the time.
