“Never Felt So Good.” James Ingram. Warner Bros. AAD. James Ingram should have been singing in the ‘30s and ‘40s. His exquisite crooning voice would have been great for the ballads of that era. He hasn’t recorded a decent ballad since his big hits “Just Once” and “One Hundred Ways” about five years ago. In his quest for hits, he’s focusing on up-tempo songs, which he sings stiffly. This CD is dominated by inferior upbeat material and undermined by punchless production. The few ballads should be the high points but they’re woefully schmaltzy. The CD features an extra song, the forgettable “Crazy.” 1/2
