Norwalk : Redevelopment Plan OKd

Share

More shopping centers and increased commercial revitalization for businesses are the main goals of a preliminary plan approved by the City Council last week for its second redevelopment project.

The council, acting as the Redevelopment Agency, also approved a resolution stating that a project area committee would not be needed. A committee must be formed if a substantial number of low- and moderate-income families will be displaced by redevelopment.

The preliminary plan--which leads to the adoption of a formal plan--sets the boundaries of the proposed project. The plan takes in scattered properties throughout the city, including parcels along Alondra Boulevard, Pioneer Boulevard and Rosecrans Avenue.

Although the plan generally excludes residentially zoned properties, a triangular parcel that contains 13 homes has been included.

The parcel--bounded by Pioneer Boulevard, San Antonio Drive and Orange Street--is being considered for expansion of Norwalk Square, but nothing definite has been planned. The plan also includes three trailer and mobile home parks.

The council also hired a consultant for $22,950 to begin drafting the environmental documents necessary for final adoption, tentatively scheduled for late 1987.
