Local News in Brief : Firm Draws Probation for Excessive Dumping

Share

For the second time in a week, the Los Angeles Board of Public Works has placed a San Fernando Valley manufacturer on probation for discharging excessive hazardous materials into city sewers.

Short Run Circuit, located at 9555 Owensmouth Ave. in Chatsworth, was cited by city Bureau of Sanitation inspectors because its waste contained high levels of copper and lead, board spokesman Don A. Norman said. The firm, which manufactures printed circuit boards, was cited on March 19, July 2 and Oct. 2, he said.

The public works board decided to place the company on probation rather than seal its sewer line after it was assured by the owner of the firm that he is taking steps to fix the problem, Norman said.

Last week, the board ordered probation for another Chatsworth firm, Circuit Manufacturing Company. The company was cited after a Nov. 19 raid by inspectors revealed that the firm was discharging high levels of hazardous wastes into the sewer system.
