Santa Monica : Pet Cleanup Law Expanded
The Santa Monica “pooper-scooper” law requiring pet owners to clean up after their dogs on private and public property has been expanded to require cleanup in city gutters.
Councilwoman Christine E. Reed urged that the law be extended to include gutters because fecal matter is washed into storm drains and becomes a source of fecal coliform contamination of Santa Monica Bay.
The new law, approved by the City Council on Dec. 9, imposes a fine of $25 to $50 for violations.
