Local News in Brief : Woman Pleads Guilty in Pharmacist’s Killing
A Venice woman has pleaded guilty to two counts of robbery and one count of second-degree murder in the robbery and shooting death of a pharmacist at a Northridge pharmacy in 1984.
Dawn Elayne Ayers, 28, of Venice, entered her plea Wednesday and faces a sentence of 25 years to life in state prison.
Ayers and her co-defendant, Jack Oscar Leo, 35, of Venice, were accused of killing Robert James Mallory, 62, the pharmacist at Plaza West Pharmacy on the 19600 block of Parthenia Street on Feb. 27, 1984.
San Fernando Superior Court Judge Dana Senit Henry set Ayers’ sentencing for Jan. 13.
Deputy Dist. Atty. Myron Jenkins is seeking the death penalty for co-defendant Leo, who is accused of firing the shotgun blast that killed Mallory, a father of three who had been a pharmacist for 28 years. A trial date has not been scheduled for Leo.
