For Christmas, Bush Wants One Answer

WASHINGTON — Vice President George Bush today urged former White House aides John M. Poindexter and Oliver L. North to “answer just one key question” before Christmas--did they tell President Reagan about the diversion of profits from the Iranian arms sale to rebels in Nicaragua?
“The country cannot wait any longer,” Bush said in a speech planned for delivery in Altoona, Iowa. A copy of his remarks was released in Washington.
“I am satisfied the answer will be ‘No,’ ” Bush said.
Results of an Iowa poll published today by the Des Moines Register showed that Bush is losing support in the state because of the Iran- contra scandal. Support for the vice president has dropped by nine percentage points since a similar poll last May, and he now trails Senate Republican leader Bob Dole of Kansas three points.
