Helping the Poor and Limits on Family Size

Share

Jean R. Berry (Letters, Dec. 8) writes from atop the Laguna Hills to lecture the poor about birth control. She was able to “choose” to have two children because she was aware of a choice. For many people, this is not so. The plight of the poor is indeed a complex issue and while I agree that education regarding birth control for everyone is a necessity, I feel that the proper attitude towards their plight is one of compassion and not a disdainful, elitist intolerance and dismissal of them and their rights. So, she only “donates” to small families? Why give at all? A gift given with such a mean-spirited attitude is no gift, but merely an appeasement of conscience.
