Sleeping Down Under

Share

The Southern Pacific Hotel Corp. will offer a Down Under hotel pass again in 1987. The rate has gone from $55 to $64 per night on a single-, double- or triple-occupancy basis.

This pass has to be bought in the United States and has a minimum purchase requirement of coupons for seven nights. But the seven nights don’t have to be at the same hotel or consecutive.

The coupons, good until the end of 1987, are valid in 75 hotels in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and Fiji. Most of the participating hotels are in Australia and New Zealand.

Reservations for as many of the seven nights as you want can be made in the United States. It’s always advisable to make reservations for at least your first night. Other reservations can be made overseas.

Reservations are particularly recommended in the busy season, which extends to April, while it is summer in the South Pacific.

The $64 rate is guaranteed, regardless of favorable or unfavorable currency fluctuations. This rate also represents a discount over usual rates offered at the individual properties. But the $64 rate also covers all of the service charges and taxes at each hotel.

Children 18 or younger can stay free when sharing a room with adults, with the exception of 12 Tourist Hotel Corp. properties in New Zealand where the gratis stays are only for children 12 or younger.

Under this program you can use two coupons (worth $128) a night at the Tahiti Beachcomber in Papeete, Tahiti, and at the Goodwood Park Hotel in Singapore on the same single-, double- or triple-occupancy basis. Use of the coupons will still mean paying less than regular rates, according to the Southern Pacific Hotel Corp., and you also don’t have to pay extra for the tax.

With your coupons you get a kit that includes a list of participating hotels with phone numbers and addresses.

No refunds are given on your purchase of the minimum of seven nights. But if you buy coupons for more than seven nights (there is no limit), you can get a refund for those unused vouchers. There is a service charge of $25 to get a refund.
