The Soviet Union has signed a $300-million economic aid agreement for Nicaragua, according to the official Barricada newspaper in Managua. Signed in Moscow, the agreement will mainly include gasoline, raw materials and machinery. Since the United States cut off aid to Nicaragua in 1981, citing the Sandinista government’s support of leftist guerrillas in El Salvador, the Soviets have been the Nicaraguans’ biggest donors. Soviet aid last year totaled $600 million.
