Irvine : Peltason to Join Board of Carnegie Foundation

Share

UC Irvine Chancellor Jack W. Peltason has been appointed to the board of trustees of the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.

The foundation, located in Princeton, N. J., is a private organization that supports research and policy studies of higher education in the United States and Canada. Among the foundation’s recent works was a three-year, $1-million study of the quality of undergraduate education in the United States. The study, which was critical of what has happened to college teaching, already is leading to calls for reform in some states.

As a trustee of the Carnegie Foundation, Peltason will be part of its governing structure. He was president of the American Council on Education in Washington before becoming chancellor of UCI in 1984.
