30 Vehicles Collide on Foggy Interstate
Associated Press
JOLIET, Ill. —
About 30 cars and trucks were involved in a chain-reaction collision Monday on a fogbound stretch of Interstate 55, and state police said that at least 27 people were injured.
“Due to heavy fog in the area, they just kept colliding,” Trooper Marvin Tinsley said.
The pileup began at about 7:25 a.m. in the southbound lanes of I-55 near Wilmington. Apparently some of the drivers had left the scene and an exact count of the vehicles involved could not be made, Tinsley said.
