A Bakersfield priest who found a newborn child on the steps of his church said he’s praying for her and her parents and plans to buy the girl a Christmas present. “Maybe I’ll buy her some fuzzy toy,” said Father Robert Wenzinger, who found the infant wrapped in a towel on the steps of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church Saturday morning. A ledge had protected the baby from an overnight rain. The infant was about 12 hours old and was cold and in shock when she was found, officials said, but since being taken to Kern Medical Center, her weight has increased from 5 pounds, 14 ounces to 6 pounds, 2 ounces.
