The Nation : Liddy Loses Tax Appeal
G. Gordon Liddy, a convicted Watergate burglar, must pay taxes on $45,630 in campaign funds that he collected to help finance a political intelligence network for President Richard M. Nixon’s reelection committee, a federal appeals court ruled. The U.S. 4th Circuit Court of Appeals in Richmond, Va., upheld a U.S. Tax Court ruling that Liddy raised about $386,000 for Nixon’s reelection campaign but could account for only $340,000. The split three-judge appeals panel said Liddy must pay taxes on the balance. Justice Department officials said they had not determined the amount of taxes due.
