Family Awaiting Word on Transplant for Son

MADISON, Wis. —
Mitchell and Jean Staskal were at the crib of their 8-month-old son, Michael, on Thursday offering a Christmas prayer for a life-saving new liver for him.
The infant, who was admitted last week at the University of Wisconsin pediatric cancer ward, lies in constant pain because of a huge cancerous tumor engulfing virtually the entire liver, doctors said. Surgeons a week ago determined the tumor was inoperable.
