It’s Criminal to Kill Firms That Are Thriving

John F. Lawrence raised a voice on behalf of the “people” in his Dec. 14 column, “In Takeovers, Human Toll is Often Ignored.”

As each news report has surfaced on attempted or actual takeovers, I have experienced a growing uneasiness.

How is it possible for anyone to literally kill a thriving company with such ease?

I have felt a mounting anger and frustration at the effect it must be having not only on those trying to maintain a successful business, but on the innocent employees, as well.

I have been through the checkout lines of Gemco and have felt the sense of loss and the pain of their people.

We have all been robbed.

I’m not ignorant of the need to keep a business financially sound, but what is happening now is nothing short of criminal.
