The Japanese government has decided to double the money it spends on AIDS research and prevention measures, to $6.2 million, during the fiscal year beginning in April, the Kyodo News Service reported. Most of it will be used to subsidize testing of blood donations for the deadly virus. The Health and Welfare Ministry said that 25 cases of acquired immune deficiency syndrome have been identified in Japan, resulting in 16 deaths.
