Warplanes from Iraq flew 31,154 combat missions over Iran this year to attack military and economic targets and also hit 124 naval targets in the Persian Gulf, the newspaper Al Thawra reported Tuesday.

Iraq uses the term naval target to define oil tankers or merchant ships.

In a report on the activities of the air force, Al Thawra said the most intensive air raids centered on Iran’s main oil terminal at Kharg Island in the gulf, which was attacked 60 times. The two nations have been at war since 1980.
