South County : Groups Seek Cityhood for Two Communities
Two south county residents’ groups have applied to the county to form cities in their unincorporated communities.
Dana Point Citizens for Incorporation this week presented the Local Agency Formation Commission with petitions bearing about 2,300 signatures favoring incorporation, a tentative boundary map for the proposed city, and environmental impact and economic feasibility studies, Mike Eggers, the group’s co-chairman, said.
Last week, a group of Laguna Niguel residents submitted its application to the commission. Two other south county communities, Mission Viejo and Capistrano Beach, are expected to turn in petitions by March 1.
Richard Turner, executive director of the Local Agency Formation Commission, said that hearings would probably be set for March for the two communities, provided that the county registrar of voters verifies that signatures from 25% of each community’s registered voters appear on the petitions.
