Cross Project Now Complete in 5 States

With a goal of erecting crosses throughout America, Bernard L. Coffindaffer says he has now completed the task in five states and is working on it in three others.

Altogether, he said, he and his crews have in two years raised 1,539 crosses--513 clusters of three each--on roadside private land, completing his “Cast Thy Bread” project in Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Ohio and Kentucky, and partly in Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Georgia.

“Three or four clusters have been mutilated or ruined by fire, but we just replace them and go on as if nothing had happened,” he said “We do not even call the cops. Usually it’s been done by drunks. We let the Lord deal with them.”
