Smile Faded Fast

The Dec. 22 article on the PSA smile (“USAir May Catch PSA’s Smile and Keep It”) ironically pictures the PSA smile on the unhappiest PSA plane--the PSA L-1011.

The picture dates to 1974 when PSA operated Lockheed L-1011s for about six months. PSA quickly learned that the large L-1011 did not suit their high flight frequency market. The planes then sat in the desert for 10 years and were finally sold about two years ago.
