General Automation Buys Computer Maker

General Automation Inc., the Anaheim computer maker, said its directors have given final approval to the company’s acquisition of Parallel Computers Inc., a Santa Cruz maker of fault-tolerant computer systems. The deal, terms of which were not disclosed, was completed on Dec. 31, 1986.

The purchase was the first in several years for General Automation, a once-struggling company that only recently began to make money.

Leonard Mackenzie, General Automation chairman, said that the acquisition will allow the company to offer its customers business computer systems capable of restarting themselves in the event of power failure or other problems.
