Yezbak Scores 28, Leads USIU to Win

Joe Yezbak scored 28 points and added 9 assists to lead U.S. International University to a 87-80 nonconference men’s basketball victory over Brooklyn College. The Gulls (4-7) have won four straight in Golden Hall.

USIU led the entire game, taking a 46-36 lead at the half. Brooklyn cut USIU’s lead to three points late in the second half. With 3:32 remaining, Brooklyn cut the USIU lead to 73-70, but three points was the closest it would get.

Leading 75-72, Dexter McGee scored inside and Russ Heicke hit a 12-foot jumper to give USIU a 79-72 lead with two minutes remaining.

Heicke scored 23 points for USIU and Kelly Andrews added 12. Forward keith Grady paced Brooklyn (5-6) with 25 points.

USIU plays host to Chopin State Wednesday night at 7:30 in Golden Hall.
