St. Louis-based May Department Stores Co. named Philip Kaplan chairman of its Loehmann’s off-price specialty retail store chain headquartered in New York. Kaplan has been president and chief operating officer of Verdi International Inc., a luggage manufacturer, since 1983. Allan R. Bogner, president of Loehmann’s, is assuming the additional title of chief executive on Feb. 1, upon the retirement of Chairman George J. Greenberg.
