A Libyan pilot, opposed to the regime of Col. Moammar Kadafi, flew a Cessna 172 from the Tripoli Aeroclub to the U.S. air base at Sigonella, in eastern Sicily, and said he wanted to be turned over to U.S. Air Force officials. The pilot, Mohammed Talah Shelhi, 25, said he was afraid that Italian officials would order his return to Libya. Shelhi said he wants to go to Britain eventually to join his English mother. She is expected to travel to Sicily to identify him, since he was traveling without a passport, British officials said.
