The ticketing supervisor for the 1988 Winter Olympic Games in Calgary has been fired, three months after the original ticket manager was arrested on fraud and theft charges.

In addition, the general manager for news media and a coordinator of telecommunications have resigned as the Olympic Organizing Committee continues to have management difficulties a year before the first Winter Olympics ever held in Canada.

The organizing committee’s vice president for marketing, Bill Wardle, dismissed ticketing supervisor Ken Melnyk because he believed Melnyk was unwilling to serve as No. 2 man in the department.

Melnyk had been jointly managing ticket sales since the original manager, Jim McGregor, was dismissed and subsequently arrested last October for allegedly distributing fraudulent ticket forms in the United States.

Last week, media manager Jim Waters announced his resignation, and telecommunications coordinator Dennis Wilson said he was leaving because he was “exceptionally frustrated.”
