California Literacy Inc., a San Gabriel-based nonprofit literacy education group, has received a $150,000 grant from the James Irvine Foundation. The grant, to be distributed over two years, will go toward a research project on how to adapt world literacy education programs for the United States.

California Literacy, established in 1957, works with 200 businesses, agencies and individuals statewide who run literacy education programs. The Irvine Foundation sponsors private education, health and community projects.

“This generous grant comes at the best possible time,” said Juanita Stanley, executive director of California Literacy.
