William Emmens, S. F. Springs Pioneer, Dies

William A. J. Emmens, one of the founders of Santa Fe Springs, died Dec. 24 at his home in Carpinteria. He was 86.

Emmens was elected to the Santa Fe Springs City Council in 1957, during the city’s incorporation election, and served until 1978.

Born in Kent, England, he settled in Whittier in the late 1920s. He established Emmens and Porter Auto Services, which he sold in 1946 and moved to a lemon ranch in South Whittier.

Emmens is survived by his wife, Elsie; a daughter, Joan Law of Los Gatos, and a son, Bill Emmens of Atascadero.
