An ex-convict accused of beating Secretary of State March Fong Eu with the blunt end of a hatchet during a break-in at her Hancock Park home pleaded innocent to burglary and robbery charges stemming from the attack. Gregory Lee Moore, 27, entered the pleas to one count each of residential burglary and residential robbery at his Los Angeles Municipal Court arraignment. The counts were dismissed last month because Eu was unavailable to testify against Moore, but prosecutors refiled the charges. Moore is not charged with a separate assault count in the November attack on Eu. But the burglary and robbery charges contain so-called “use” allegations that accuse Moore of beating Eu with a deadly weapon--a hatchet--and inflicting great bodily injury on her.
