Wallace Edkins, CHP Official Who Retired in 1984, Dies in Santa Ana

Wallace Edkins, a retired California Highway Patrol inspector, died Wednesday evening at Western Medical Center in Santa Ana after a long battle with cancer, a CHP spokesman said.

Edkins, 68, who retired in December of 1984, joined the CHP in June of 1948 and worked his way up to become inspector, the equivalent of chief, of the Santa Ana headquarters, a CHP official said.

He is survived by his wife, Lydia; three daughters, Lynda Clegg, Kathy Hobbs and Annette Black, and nine grandchildren.

Burial will be today at Fairhaven Memorial Park, 1702 E. Fairhaven Ave., Santa Ana.
