Warren Scripps Booth, former president, publisher and board chairman of the Detroit News, died after a brief illness. He was 92.

Booth, who died Sunday in his daughter’s Miami home, was the grandson of James E. Scripps, who founded the News in 1873. The newspaper was sold to Gannett Co. Inc. last year, ending 113 years of Scripps family ownership.

In 1952, Booth became president of the News. He held the top post for 11 years until he was succeeded in 1963 by Peter B. Clark, his second cousin and Scripps’ great-grandson.
