Former Philippine President Ferdinand E. Marcos and his wife, Imelda, have been subpoenaed by a federal grand jury in Alexandria, Va., and are expected to testify, possibly this month, according to informed sources.

The grand jury is investigating alleged kickbacks in U.S.-financed military sales to the Philippines during the Marcos regime.

Marcos is tentatively scheduled to go before the grand jury Jan. 22. A Marcos spokesman in Honolulu said the Marcoses have asked for a postponement but will comply with the subpoena if the delay is not granted.

The appearance would mark the first time Marcos or his wife has been questioned in a criminal investigation since they fled the Philippines last February for asylum in the United States.
