About 100 of the people involved in rescue efforts after an Amtrak train collided with Conrail locomotives near Baltimore on Jan. 4 gathered at Essex, Md., for a memorial service for the 15 people who died in the accident. Father Michael Adams, who conducted the service at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, said it brought some sense of healing after the worst accident in Amtrak’s history, which injured more than 170 people. This week, the National Transportation Safety Board expects to receive the results of toxicology tests of the Conrail crew members and tissue samples from the dead Amtrak engineer as well as data from track recorders, a spokesman said.
