Aquino Named Winner of King Peace Prize

ATLANTA —
Philippines President Corazon Aquino was named Monday as the winner of the 12th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Non-Violent Peace Prize for leading a popular revolt that toppled Ferdinand Marcos without a civil war.
“Non-violent action by President Aquino was the moving force in achieving peaceful change in her nation with little bloodshed,” said King’s widow, Coretta Scott King, in announcing the award at a news conference.
