New York-based International Paper Co. reported a 200% jump in earnings for its fourth quarter, with net income jumping $69 million over the same period last year. Accounting for a 30% increase in sales was the acquisition of Hammermill Paper Co., the firm said. International Paper said its 1987 earnings are expected to improve still more from the 1986 total of $305 million or $5.79 a share. The lower dollar helped export volume and pricing and continued economic growth domestically led to excellent demand and improved pricing for the company’s major product lines, a spokesman said.
