Pakistani mobs burned buildings, set up blockades and attacked police in a second day of rioting in Karachi. Violence also flared in Hyderabad, another city in Pakistan’s southern Sind province. Five people were reported killed and more than 100 injured. Police said clashes erupted as the Mohajir ethnic group called for a “black day” to protest the killing last week of three members of their community. The Mohajirs, Muslim refugees from India, say they have been denied equal status with other ethnic groups.
