The World : Ethiopia Air Crash Kills 54

Share

An Ethiopian air force plane carrying 54 people crashed shortly after taking off from Asmara in northern Ethiopia. The official Ethiopian radio said that all aboard were killed after the plane “developed sudden problems” on a flight to Addis Ababa. The report did not specify what kind of plane it was, but Western diplomats said they believed that it was a Soviet-built Antonov 12 transport. Asmara is the capital of Eritrea province, where rebels have been fighting a war for independence for about 25 years.
