Colombian Envoy Shot, Wounded in Budapest
Colombia’s ambassador to Hungary, a former justice minister and anti-drug crusader, was shot and seriously wounded by a lone gunman Tuesday outside his residence in an apparent assassination attempt by Colombian drug traffickers.
Enrique Parejo Gonzalez was shot five times, Hungary’s official news agency MTI said. He was listed in serious condition.
An anonymous caller to United Press International in Bogota said a group calling itself the Hernando Botero Command was responsible. Botero was one of nine Colombians extradited to the United States to face drug trafficking charges while Parejo was justice minister.
