Distribution of milk cartons containing pictures of National Football League players is being discontinued because the public has developed a negative attitude toward sports, said a company official of Morning Glory Farms’ Consumer Products Division in De Pere, Wis.
An unidentified company spokesman was quoted as saying the decision was made, in part, because of negative off-field publicity surrounding the Green Bay Packers’ James Lofton, who is one of 24 NFL players in the carton series and the only member of the Packers depicted.
Lofton was arrested last month by Green Bay police on a second-degree sexual assault charge and faces a Jan. 21 preliminary hearing.
