USC’s men’s volleyball team, ranked third in the nation in the preseason poll, will open the 1987 season with two matches in Orange County this week.
The Trojans will meet UC Irvine tonight at 7:30 in Crawford Hall and play host to the Israeli national team Saturday night at 7:30 at Golden West College. USC finished 27-2 last season under Coach Bob Yoder of San Clemente.
UCI dropped men’s volleyball in the mid 1970s and is resuming its program at the club level this season under Coach Bill Ashen.
USC has seven players from the county on its 13-man squad, including last year’s collegiate player of the year, outside hitter Adam Johnson of Laguna Beach. The Trojans’ other top player is outside hitter Dave Yoder of San Clemente.
