A People’s Tribunal convicted the vice president of Nicaragua’s Chamber of Commerce, Guillermo Quant Tai, of spying for the CIA and sentenced him to 30 years in prison, the maximum penalty under Nicaraguan law. The court also ordered the confiscation of Quant’s property. Quant, 54, was arrested in August and charged with giving CIA agents potentially sensitive information about the location of army oil storage tanks and shipments of weapons and helicopters, Interior Ministry officials said. In a September news conference, Quant admitted giving information to U.S. officials but said it was not secret data.
