250,000 Audi 5000s Recalled

Audi of America Inc. today announced the recall of all Audi 5000 models with automatic transmissions, including those involved in a federal investigation into sudden acceleration which allegedly has resulted in at least four deaths.

The recall covers about 250,000 of the cars, which sell for about $20,000 apiece. Last year, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration received nearly 400 complaints that the cars suddenly accelerated from standstill to full power, mostly when drivers tried to shift transmissions into park.
