This country’s main independent radio station, Radio Nanduti, has gone off the air due to what its director said was constant jamming, and he called on the government to end the interference.

At a news conference on Wednesday, station director Humberto Rubin said interference that had marred Radio Nanduti’s broadcasting since last May worsened in December to the point that it was affecting advertising time.

“This strangled the firm economically,” Rubin told reporters.

The radio, in its 20th year in operation, will be silent “for 90 days or until the state identifies the interference and ends it to allow us to exercise press freedom without constraints,” Rubin said.
