Beirut Gunmen Shoot at Romanian Envoy

BEIRUT — Gunmen in a speeding car opened fire today on a limousine carrying the Romanian ambassador to Lebanon but he escaped unhurt, police said.
They said it was not clear whether the gunmen were trying to kidnap or kill the envoy, Florea Chitu, who was on the road to Beirut Airport. Amal militiamen escorted the envoy to his embassy in West Beirut, they said.
