ON THE TOWN: Madame Wong’s West isn’t closing after all. Esther Wong, who announced she was shutting down the venerable rock club after New Year’s, said last week that she’s changed her mind after reaching a new agreement with the club’s landlord. “I guess he doesn’t want me to leave after all,” she said. “He told me that rock ‘n’ roll needs me, and that I need rock ‘n’ roll.” Wong acknowledged that another possible reason for her change of heart involved problems with acquiring a new piece of property in Monrovia, where she had planned to open a new showcase concert club. “We’re going to fix the old place up, and I’m going to stick around,” she added. “We’ll still have plenty of music for a long time to come.” . . . Meanwhile, Run-D.M.C. is back in town, this time to make a new video, “It’s Tricky,” the latest single from the rap trio’s multiplatinum album. To give the clip a genuinely sleight-of-hand spin, the rappers have teamed up with magic wizards Penn & Teller, who helped conjure the concept for the video and co-star with Run-D.M.C. as rival tricksters eager to out-con each other.
